Final reflection

WHAT DID I KNOW ABOUT WHAT WE HAVE DONE THIS SEMESTER?

When I took this course, I had an intermediate-advanced level of digital competence when it comes to the information area. I could look for specific information using some strategies such as "...." and so on as well as seek for reliable information on other search engines like Google Scholar.

On the other hand, I had an intermediate level of digital competence regarding communication. I was able to interact with others through technologies and share information and contents. For example, I was used to using collaborative tools such as Drive, Dropbox to do projects with my classmates and sharing information. Every time I used technology, I was aware of the netiquette.

However, I had a basic level of digital competences in content creation, safety and problem solving.

WHAT HAVE I LEARNT?

I have learnt a lot about content creation. Every week, I discovered new online tools that enables me to create interactive, dynamic, attractive, engaging and significant content to implement in my teaching.

I had been also able to know more about how an interactive white board works and the different possibilities it offers. These days, lots of schools have this resource, and as teachers, we should have knowledge about it.

I have also had the opportunity to learn how to use Excel for assessment. I do think it is a good resource to use since it is not time-consuming and makes difficult mathematical operations very quickly.

WHAT IS GOING TO BE THE MOST USEFUL FOR ME? AND THE LEAST? WHY?

I consider that all the tools related to content creation are going to be the most useful for me. I believe that the ones that will be the most useful are the ones included in my PLE in Symbaloo. For example: Amara to subtitle videos, Quizlet to work on vocabulary, Podcasts to focus on speaking and pronunciation, PowToon to create animations, EBeam, the software, to work with the IWB, etc.

Nowadays, we live in a society that is surrounded by technology, our students are digital natives. Due to that, as teachers, we should show children how to make a good use of technologies as well as approach this resource to them. For example, if we want to work on pronunciation, instead of repeating all the time the same word, students can create podcasts and then, the teacher or other classmates can give them feedback... These tools have lots of possibilities that make students be more motivated and develop other skills that using technology implies.

I do not think any of the tools I have found out or I have worked on are not going to be useful for my future teaching, since I strongly believe that each one can be used for different purposes and meet different needs. Therefore, depending on the skills you want to focus on, we can use either one tool or another one. The important aspect is to be conscious of the wide variety of websites, tools and resources we have available nowadays and make a good use of them and taking into account that they help us to reach our goals.

WHAT HAVE I LIKED THE MOST?

I really liked that we have been asked to create our own activities using the different resources and tools learnt and worked in class. The professor did not just explain how they could be used and for what, but we were able to explore them, try to figure out how they work, what made me have a deeper understanding of the use of the different tools. It's true that it requires time and it is sometimes hard, but I think it is worthy since it is a training for what we have to do in our future teaching.
